My new Cousin

Just a quick post with a picture of me holding my new cousin Annabelle.  She’s only 2 weeks old and so tiny.

Can you tell that I’m just a little bit thrilled to get to hold her.

I think Grandma and Papa were holding their breath for the entire 2 minutes I was allowed to hold.

What could have possibly gone wrong… (smile)…

Catch you in a few days.

I’m on a soccer team

Yup, I’m playing soccer… no idea how, but I love running and kicking the ball so I’m happy.

We play on Saturdays at the local YMCA.  There are lots of teams and lots of kids.. so I get to meet new people.  I do enjoy playing with other kids so this is great.

Here’s a picture of me in my jersey with my shine guards on and my strange shoes.   My shoes have bumps and points all over the bottom.. they feel weird when I walk on hard stuff but work pretty well when running on grass.

And of course, we need a couple of action shots to show off my skills.

One of the ways Grandma keeps me quiet

I’m 3 years old so I’m not always the quietest child in the restaurant, in the back seat of the car, at the dinner table, or at bed time.  I sometimes tend to get just a little bit wild and maybe even a little out of control.

But don’t worry because Grandma has found a way to always make me quiet as a mouse.   She’s just gives me my iPad.   Of course, Grandpa thought it was his iPad but we all know better.  Someday, we’ll have to tell him.

Getting back to my original story…  Grandma just has to turn it on and hand it to me and instant silence.

The iPad is extremely cool.  It has games, puzzles, books, TV shows, movies, videos and photos of me and my family, and much much more.  What’s there not to like.  You would be amazed at how long it can keep me busy.

If we are at a restaurant for example, and I start to get just a little antsy, out comes the iPad and suddenly I’m calm and quiet.

What really fascinates Papa is how well I use it.  I can turn it on, adjust the volume, pick the app or video I want to watch..  I can even size things… flick my fingers out and it gets bigger, flick my fingers in and it gets smaller.  And turning pages is a breeze; you just swipe the page in the direction you want to go.

The only problem I have is I can get Grandpa’s computer screen to change pages when I swipe it, no matter how hard I pound on the monitor.

And remember when I said Papa still thinks the iPad is his?   Last time I check I had a couple of seasons of  “Dinosaur Train“, “Little Einsteins“, “Jacks’s Big Music Show“, “Wonder Pets“, “Rugrats”, and tons of “Phineas and Ferb” (Papa likes them also), and a couple of seasons of “Scooby Doo“.  Scooby Doo is my favorite.  I could watch him all day.

I also have the three Toy Story movies (“Toy Story“, Toy Story 2“, and “Toy Story 3“) loaded on the iPad..  and don’t even get me going about all of the books, games and puzzles I have.

If Papa ever decided he wanted to use it, I don’t think there’s room for any of his stuff… (smile)..

I have a new cousin

Last Friday, February 11, 2011, at 6:45 PM I were blessed with my 3rd cousin; Annabelle Lee.  She weighed in at 6 lbs 11 oz and she was 19 1/2 inches long.

This way too cool.  Annabelle will be my first cousin that I am old enough to play with when she’s still a baby.

Aunt Lauren  and daughter are both doing just fine…

Catch you in a few days.

It’s finally a little warmer today

All week, the temperature have been brutal for someplace as far south as Houston.   Mornings  have been starting at in the 20° F range every morning, and not getting much warmer throughout the day.

That changed a little today.  This afternoon the temperature made it all the way up to 56° F.  That was wonderful compared to the rest of the week.   That also meant it was warm enough today for Mommy and Grandma to take me to the park.

We use this very nice, completely enclosed and covered very large play area at the church I go to a couple of times a week.

The three of us were able to play for almost 90 minutes.   It was so nice after being cooped up in the house all week.

We also played with bubbles while we were there… and that’s always fun.

Well, it’s time to start thinking about having dinner.   I just woke up from my nap, the park always wipes me out, and now I’m ready to eat…

Bring on the Kraft Macaroni and Cheese…

Catch you in a few days.

Backyard play area update

Well, I guess even a 3 year old can mess up a good thing.

As you can see by the attached photo, between my house and my play area, someone stuck a swimming pool.   This is turning out to be quite the problem for me.

It seems that both Grandma and Papa are not to thrill with me running full speed OUT of the play area and around the pool.   They think it’s an unsafe thing to do.   Of course, I don’t see the big deal so when they yell at me to stop running or get away from the pool, I just ignore them.

At dinner, Grandma and Papa were talking.  They said they were going to have to put up some kind of fence where the stones (at the end of my play area) meet the plants to slow me down.   They are talking to the folks next door that replaced our big fence to see what they can do.   The fence would contain me.  Well, contain me at least long enough so they can catch up to me.

We’ll just have to wait to see what happens.

Well, that it for tonight.

“The King*” has his own backyard play area now

Over the weekend, Grandma and Papa finished putting together a play area for me in the backyard.

Papa says this play area could be the most expensive play area ever built.   It seems that Papa found this Little Tykes Playground play set way back before Christmas with free shipping, a huge savings considering this thing weighed in at 240 pounds when it arrived in two boxes.  He couldn’t pass up a deal like this.  And since we no longer have a dog we don’t use the area behind the garage, a play area for me seemed like a great idea.

Unfortunately, the wooden privacy fence in the part of the backyard Grandma and Papa wanted to set this thing up at was in pretty bad shape.  They were concerned I could get hurt on the fence or “escape” through one of the broken fence boards.    So Grandma hired someone to fix the fence…  that ended up being someone who replaced all 250 feet of fence around the entire backyard….  $$$…

OK, fence is finally replaced.   Now the area behind the garage, where the play set will reside, needs to be brought up to spec.  You could hardly get back there because of the row of bushes.   So, bushes had to be moved making it easier to walk in and out of the back grassy area.   We have very little grass in our backyard….  $$$

Of course, you can’t set up a play set that Grandchildren might fall off of (this play set if about 6 feet high at its highest point) on hard packed dirt.  Something safer needed to be laid down first.   The solution, a couple of inches of rubber mulch… 2,000 pounds worth to be exact.  $$$

But wait, when measuring the area to determine how much rubber mulch we might need, Grandma discovered that the ground is not the least bit level.   Papa thinks that could be problematic.  Solution, have the landscape people who are going to move the bushes to a different location, level out the area for us… $$$$$

The bushes are moved and the ground is level.   The landscape company even laid down some black plastic stuff to prevent grass and weeds from growing up through the rubber mulch.

But wait again..  The place that sells the rubber mulch doesn’t normally deliver, although they will for a huge fee.  Fortunately, the landscape folks agree to pick up and spread the rubber mulch for us saving us a ton of work.  Papa had no idea how he was going move and unload a one ton bag of rubber mulch… $$

Fence is fixed, area is level, and the rubber mulch is in place.  It’s now time for Papa to finally assemble my play set..  gee, it’s only been almost 2 months since it was delivered and I’m ready to play.

I went to the petting zoo with Mom while Grandma and Papa put the play set together… something about small children possibly getting in the way and inappropriate language.

Finally.. Sunday morning after church, Grandma and Papa took me into the backyard for the unveiling….  My play area was complete…  and it was well worth the wait.

Grandma even set up a small picnic table for me… Little Tykes Easy Store Table

And there is enough room, even with the play set, for me to kick around my ball and play with bubbles.

This is way too cool.

*Now you also know why my good friend Jim coined the term “The King” to describe me.

Well, that’s it for today.
