Last night I had the chance to do something I have never done before.   I talked to Grandpa using Grandma’s computer.  It was very cool.

At first I wasn’t sure what was going on.   Grandma set up her computer on the kitchen table just I was finishing dinner.    They pushed my highchair as close to the table as possible and placed the computer in front of me, just out of my reach for some reason.   The next thing I knew Grandpa’s face popped up on the screen and he started to talk to me.   It took me a second to decide what I should do.  Then I yelled out “Grandpa”.

It was great.  We talked for about 15 minutes (as much as I can talk).  It was nice to see him because he seems to be gone a lot.

I’m looking forward to the next time he calls.

P.S.  Just in case anyone is interested, we used the built in webcam on Grandma’s Lenova Thinkpad.   Grandpa used a Logitech® Webcam Pro 9000.  He said it’s was the easiest thing in the world to set up.   And Logitec has its own network to connect through so there was no need to do anything special.

A few days (or so) ago, I turn a full 2 years old.   Now that I’m a “big kid”, I get to have birthday parties and go out to trick and treat on Halloween.   This is just so much fun.

For my birthday , Mom and Grandma bought me something called an ice cream cake.  The idea seemed a bit confusing.   Was it a cake (that’s certainly what it looked like) or was it ice cream (it was pretty cold to touch)?   I was about to find out.    They put this “ice cream cake” in front of me so I could do anything I wanted to it.   The following three short videos do a much better job of showing what transpired next… view on and have fun…

It was my 2nd Birthday a few days ago.    Mom and Grandma not only bought me an ice cream cake, they gave the entire cake to me… it was so cool… and cold.

Grandma posted a video of me blowing out my candle and tasting the cake so Grandpa could see; he’s out-of-town.

I think water is really cool.   Bath’s are wonderful and swimming lessons were great.   Now I discovered fountains.

Over the weekend my group (six adults I take out to dinner every Saturday night) went to a Chinese Buffet (Ling’s Buffet in Atascocita).   I hear a buffet is someplace were you serve yourself and eat all you want.   I’ll have to take the word of everyone else because I still get waited on when I eat.

But getting back to the water.   I’m new too fountains so had to check it out.

First off, the water going up in the air was pretty neat.  That was new for me…  I need to figure out how to do that with my water bottle.

Next, I had to sneak up on the water.   At first I wasn’t sure what it was or what it might do to me.   Caution is always good when you come up on something new.

I finally built up enough courage to touch the water.   However, it was just out of my reach.   With Mom watching over me making sure I didn’t fall into the fountain, I was finally able to reach the water.

The results shocked me.  The water squirted me.  I was pretty much wet all over.  Fortunately, I’m a toddle do no cares if my shirt is alright.   They just assume that’s normal.

The highlight once in the restaurant and after I had finished eating was an ice cream cone.   I’ve had cones before and I have had the opportunity to lick Mom’s cone.   This was the first time I had a cone all to myself.   I had a blast… and didn’t make all that bad of a mess.

I completely forget to tell you what I ate…   I had a few hard boiled eggs, some fried wonton noodles, watermelon, fried rice, and chicken.   I know there’s not much in that list that sounds very Chinese; that’s all they would let me eat…

Every Saturday morning Mom and Grandma take me to gym class at The Little Gym.  It seems everyone, including me, are always a little cranky, making the teacher and Mom’s efforts to help me do a forward roll or to walk on the balance beam frustrating for all of us.  I like to run around by myself while everyone else is together jumping or running in a circle on the big red mat or playing with the big parachute. Don’t even think about trying to show me how to properly use the uneven parallel bars. Then Mom did something that totally changed my attitude. Mom rescheduled our class to Friday. I was actually agreeable to help from the teacher, I participated in the group activities on the big red mat, I stood in line when class was over to get my feet and hand stamped with horses and even let the teacher help me.  Overall, the smaller class size and the more relaxed atmosphere  of the Friday class worked better for me, so much so we permanently rescheduled for Fridays.  I am looking forward to going back on Friday to amaze my Mom and the teacher. Stayed tuned.

Even with a little food on my face…

A few afternoons ago we were playing in the kitchen running around the island.   Suddenly, it became very dark, like nighttime in the middle of the afternoon.    Grandma said it looked like a nasty thunderstorm was moving in.  That didn’t mean a whole lot to me so I just kept on running.

Suddenly, there was this horribly loud noise.  It sounded like the house was going to fall on me.   I started to whimper a little.  After all, a big boy like me isn’t afraid of a little bit of noise.   Then it happened again.   Now I started to cry.    This was all pretty scary.   It kept happening over and over; each time getting a little louder.

Mom said it was only thunder from the rain outside.   That sounded like a reasonable explanation but it didn’t make the noise any less scary.  Then Grandpa started to make a game out of the noise, working each clap of thunder into a portion of a song.    It was actually pretty funny.   I started to laugh at his silly song and the way he was acting.  After a few minutes I had completely forgotten about the thunder outside.

Now when it rains and starts to thunder outside, everyone makes the thunder into the clapping part of a song.

It works for me…  now if we can only figure out how to stop the thunder from waking me up in the middle of the night.

One thing about were we live, there are outdoor swimming pools everywhere.   Every subdivision has a community pool.   In fact, it seems like over half of the homes in our subdivision have pool.  Considering that every time I want to go outside I’m told it’s too hot, swimming pools seem like a good idea.   The bad side of course, is that not a week goes by that Grandma and Grandpa aren’t talking about a toddler in our area that drowns.

In an effort to help make me safe, my Mom enrolled me in swimming classes at out local YMCA.  Every morning this week I have a lesson.   Once lessons are complete, Mom is going to start taking me into the pool a couple times a week to enforce what I’m learning.

One of the big things they taught us our first day, and we worked on this our second day also, is how to get out of the pool on our own.  I can now grab the side of the pool and completely pull myself up and out on my own.    Now we are working on how I get over to the side of the pool.

Even though Mom is always in the pool with me and Grandma is sitting at the side of pool watching, they think it is important to know how to swim a little.   “Stuff happens” sometimes and we are trying to make sure it doesn’t happen to me.

Plus….  getting in the pool on a hot day is a lot of fun…

BTW, just because you send you toddler to swimming class doesn’t mean you can turn your back for a second when they are in a pool.  I’m your responsibility and you better be watching me like a hawk no matter how well you think I can swim.. I’m still a toddler.
